Why your Backlinks Are Not Working
Written by Saifi Rizvi

Has this ever happened to you that the rank of your site remains static even when you have tried hard to bring it on the top? Or even worse: the rank of your site actually drops.

If this has happened with you, you have landed on the correct article.

SEO is a growing and bigger part of most companies(especially on the marketing side) but companies get frustrated as SEO is a difficult task to manage. SEO is hard, complicated and time-consuming.  The most common reason that frustrates people is backlinking. In this article, I am going to bring into light some common bugs that will help you understand why you are not getting positive outcome for your backlinking attempt.

  1. Un-Balanced Link Profile

It is often understood that having a good collection of low-quality links in your profile helps a lot but it’s not completely true. Maintain a balance of low-quality as well as good-quality links in your profile. Now, what is a low-quality and good-quality link?

  • Forum links and blog comments from websites that have Domain authority 30 or less than 30 are considered low-quality links and links from websites that have DA more than 30 are considered good-quality links.
  • Directories because they are spammed a lot in the past days.
  1. External Linking

Create external links with websites that don’t link with millions of website.Tool like Monitorbacklinks.com shows the number of external links coming from your links and can help you understand that with which links you should build your relationship with.

  1. Don’t be at the end of the page

Are your links at the very end of the page? They won’t be valued. Google loves only those links that are often clicked and used by people. There are many SEO tools like searchmetrics, Google Search Console etc. that analyze a site and tells you where your links on the page are. Work hard and get your link on the first position on the page.

  1. Links from websites other than your niche

Links from websites that are completely different from your niche have a very little or no benefit. This is a thing which most people fail to understand. They don’t take keyword relevance into consideration but that is where they lack. There are many tools which help you identify websites that have a high relevance to you. Therefore, link only with websites who have similar area of function as yours.

  1. No optimized anchor text

Find the perfect anchor text ratio in your niche to make sure that the page you are trying to rank is not under-optimized or over-optimized.

  1. Be aware of Randomized algorithm

If you observe that you rank is, instead of getting higher, getting lowered after placing the links, be cautious as this algorithm might be monitoring you. This algorithm basically functions to figure out who is trying to “game” search engine page results and monitors the link for twenty days.

So if you see that you are facing a negative movement in your rank, don’t try to recover it. Work on that link like you usually do for twenty days and apply any SEO method only after twenty days because if you are caught playing off the SERP, you will have to bear the negative effect for a long term.

Conclusion:

Backlinks play a major role in uplifting or lowering your page’s rank. Make sure that you create and maintain them appropriately.
